COMMUNICATION AT END-OF-LIFE EDUCATION FUND FOR LONG-TERM CARE (CEoL Fund)

The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long- Term Care has commissioned the Ontario CLRI to coordinate continuing education for personal support workers’ (PSWs) on the topic of improved end-of-life care. The CEoL Fund delivers Communication at End-of-Life: Train-the-Trainer Workshops (Wave 1) and Communication at End-of-Life: PSW Education (Wave 2), in partnership with Algonquin College.
WAVE 1: TRAIN-THE-TRAINER WORKSHOPS
Wave 1 consists of a series of two-day workshops to provide Ontario’s Long-Term Care (LTC) Trainers with educational resources for teaching palliative and end-of-life communication skills to PSWs in LTC. One hundred and four LTC homes will be selected to participate in Wave 1. Each participating LTC home will be required to send two LTC Trainers to a CEoL: Train-the-Trainer Workshop. LTC homes will be eligible to receive wage support and travel assistance for their LTC Trainers to attend the in-class workshop.

WAVE 2: PSW EDUCATION
35 LTC homes will be selected to participate in Wave 2. These 35 LTC homes must complete Wave 1 in order to receive support for Wave 2. Participating LTC homes will receive four hours of structured coaching to support their LTC Trainers as they deliver CEoL education to their PSWs. LTC homes will be eligible to receive wage support for their LTC Trainers and a select number of PSWs who participate in Wave 2.
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
- Only Ontario LTC homes are eligible to apply for the CEoL Fund.
- Each Ontario LTC home may complete one CEoL Fund Application Form. The application form must be completed by the LTC home’s Administrator. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
