About the Presenters:

Aviva Rostas MD FRCPC
Dr. Rostas completed her Undergraduate training at the University of Western Ontario and then attended medical school at McMaster University. She completed her psychiatry residency at the University of Toronto in 2017, and subsequently completed geriatric psychiatry subspecialty training at the University of Toronto in June 2018.  She is currently on staff at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and works in the geriatric psychiatry inpatient unit, in transitional housing for seniors, and consulting to long-term care homes. She is a Lecturer in the University of Toronto Department of Psychiatry.

Leslie Giddens-Zuker BA, BSW, MSW, RSW
Leslie has a BA in Sociology from the University of Western Ontario, a BSW from York University, and a MSW from the University of Toronto. Having been with the University Health Network Toronto Western Hospital since 1997, Leslie brings over 23 years experience as a social worker and mental health clinician, with 14 years in providing consultation to long-term care homes?. Leslie has been a clinician in the Geriatric Mental Health Outreach Team (GMHOT) since 2005.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  1. Summarize the epidemiology of non-dementia mental illnesses in LTC
  2. Discuss practical strategies and assessment tools to help distinguish dementia from other mental illnesses
  3. Utilize interdisciplinary models to support clients with mental illness in a LTC setting

Details:

Baycrest Behavioural Support Rounds provide a learning forum to review leading practices in the assessment and supportive management of challenging, responsive behaviours; and offer practical approaches to support the work of front-line healthcare providers in caring for persons with responsive behaviours.

Baycrest Behavioural Support Rounds occur every 3rd Thursday of the month from October – June.

These rounds are restricted to healthcare professionals and students only.
