Social Workers and Social Service Workers in LTC Community of Practice
Publish Date:
Join us for Virtual Community of Practice Peer Support sessions. The group is open to Registered Social Workers and Registered Social Service Workers, who are working in Ontario LTC homes. Social work students who are completing placements in the LTC sector are also welcome to participate.
On a monthly basis, we come together virtually to discuss issues impacting psychosocial care of residents living in LTC homes, and relevant practice related topics for LTC social workers and social service workers. We share relevant resources, learning opportunities and discuss successes and current challenges.
Sessions are hosted by the Ontario CLRI at Bruyère Health and Family Councils Ontario and co-facilitated with Karin Adlhoch, part-time faculty at York University, School of Social Work, and former Resident Services Manager at Cummer Lodge (City of Toronto LTC Homes).

Webinar Recording: The Role of Social Workers and Social Service Workers in LTC Homes
This session spotlights the important role of Social Workers and Social Service Workers in long-term care homes in supporting better mental health care for residents and caregivers!
Learn from Amy McNally, Registered Social Worker, about how several Extendicare LTC homes in the Toronto area have introduced a new position for Registered Social Service Workers (RSSWs) as Admission Coordinators. This strategic move aims to enhance ongoing well-being support for residents by reallocating responsibilities. Amy highlights how this new role gives existing RSWs gained additional capacity and allows them to provide more focused mental health and psycho-social-emotional services throughout residents’ time in LTC.
Participants will also learn about the Ontario SW and SSW in LTC Community of Practice, hosted by the Ontario CLRI at Bruyère Health and Family Councils Ontario.
Original air date of webinar: November 27, 2024.
