Now Available: “Cultural Humility in Action: Nurturing Inclusion in Long-Term Care” NEW video and Discussion Guide from the Ontario CLRI

There are tangible things that everyone can do to foster an inclusive environment in long-term care homes. The Ontario CLRI is pleased to announce the release of a 5-minute video aimed at supporting team members and students in navigating the increasing diversity in long-term care homes. The video is a result of the collaboration of the Ontario CLRI’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and Preceptor Resource and Education Program in Long-Term Care (PREP LTC) teams.

This video and the accompanying Facilitator Discussion Guide and Handout join a suite of resources aimed at supporting long-term care homes in integrating equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives. This short, animated video follows a team member as they guide a new team member and a new student on a tour of a long-term care home. Along the tour, the team member identifies how cultural humility is the cornerstone of the community and how it is woven into the day-to-day experiences and routines at the home. The video includes a variety of settings and situations within a long-term care home, examples of what inclusion looks like, and how cultural considerations contribute to an overall positive and enriching experience in the home, for all – residents, caregivers/care partners, team members and students.

The video includes a call to action to learn more by exploring the Ontario CLRI’s All-In: Practicing Cultural Humility in Palliative Care, an eLearning course available on the Ontario CLRI eLearning Hub.

The video and discussion guide are available for free, and can be easily incorporated into orientation and training.
