Supporting 2SLGBTQ+ Inclusion in Long-Term Care Training Program

We are delighted to be able to offer the opportunity for additional LTC homes in Ontario to have their team members participate in 2SLGBTQ+ Inclusion training! Please note, there is NO wage support available for this offering. We are providing is FREE TUITION to participate in two of Rainbow Health Ontario’s eLearning Courses: 2SLGBTQ+ Foundations and 2SLGBTQ+ Older Adults and Inclusive Care. These eLearning courses provide learners with foundational knowledge and skills to foster 2SLGBTQ+ inclusive and affirming environments. Learners complete the courses independently, in a self-directed manner, and completion of both courses will take approximately 5.5 – 7 hours. Each LTCH is eligible for up to a maximum of 20 spaces for learners from that LTCH.

In February and March of 2025, we collaborated with Rainbow Health Ontario (RHO) to offer foundational education to support LTC workers and teams in Ontario. We reached 158 learners, representing 38 LTC homes in Ontario. The training included a mix of eLearning and synchronous virtual elements. This training offers LTC team members the knowledge and skills to foster more 2SLGBTQ+ inclusive and affirming environments for residents, care partners/caregivers and colleagues.
Learners participated in six components, delivered over a day and a half (totalling 13 hours of training).
Day 1: (8 hours, inclusive of lunch and break time)
- Live synchronous virtual intro – course kickoff
- 2SLGBTQ Foundations – self-directed eLearning Course (Mainpro certified)
- Virtual Q and A Session – live synchronous with Rainbow Health Ontario Educator
Day 2: (5 hours)
- 2SLGBTQ Older Adults and Inclusive Care – self-directed eLearning Course
- Live synchronous virtual session – with 2SLGBTQI+ older adult Lived Experience Facilitator and Ontario CLRI
- Removing the Barriers: Making Your Organization 2SLGBTQ Friendly – live synchronous virtual with RHO Educator
Program Partners
Rainbow Health Ontario is an award-winning program that offers training for healthcare providers across the province to be more clinically and culturally competent in caring for 2SLGBTQ+ service users. RHO also supports system change by producing evidence-based print and web resources, contributing a 2SLGBTQ+ health perspective to public policy processes, acting as a research catalyst, and hosting Canada’s largest 2SLGBTQ+ health conference.
