Strengthening the Future of LTC Food Services: Findings, Tools, Advocacy

Thursday, April 23, 2026

11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

With this workshop, attendees will:

  • Unpack key survey findings on food budget and staffing from the Ontario Seniors Nutrition and Advocacy Committee (OSNAC) that spotlight critical gaps and how these insights are informing advocacy.
  • Get hands-on with new educational tools and resources including a collaboratively designed e-learning course with OSNAC and Ontario CLRI to address learning gaps and prepare team members for the safe support of long-term care mealtimes and residents with swallowing difficulties (dysphagia).
  • Hear early results from the Ontario Association of Residents’ Councils’ Food Services resident survey, how it is working with OSNAC to drive food service advocacy, and share your own ideas and questions about the future of LTC food and nutrition services.
Supporting International LTC Staff Using Palliative Approach to Care Principles

With this workshop, attendees will:

  • Understand what research shows about key challenges faced by internationally educated long-term care staff trying to adapt to a new environment and what that means for building inclusive, supportive workplaces.
  • Analyze how a palliative approach to care and its emphasis on holistic, person-centred and team-based practices can support staff integration and retention.
  • Engage in an exercise to apply these insights through development of practical strategies that address cultural adaptation, communication barriers, organizational support and team collaboration.
