About the Program
The Ontario Centres for Learning, Research and Innovation in Long-Term Care (CLRI) at Baycrest: Innovation in Action in Long-Term Care Student Internship is a 5-week unpaid hybrid experiential internship that brings together emerging healthcare professionals and long-term care (LTC) homes to address a real practice challenge and improve the quality of life for residents living with dementia.
Using quality improvement (QI) and design thinking frameworks, student interns work alongside LTC teams, residents, families, and healthcare providers to explore a practice challenge, co-design and test solutions, and develop an interprofessional capstone project aligned with a quality standard from the Ontario Health Quality Standard for Behavioural Symptoms of Dementia.
For Long-Term Care Homes
LTC homes are invited to apply to become Host Innovation Sites and partner with three student interns to address a practice challenge within their organization.
Participating homes will receive support from Ontario CLRI educators and have the opportunity to engage emerging healthcare professionals in a QI and design thinking process that can contribute to the home’s quality improvement efforts.
For Student Interns
This internship provides students and recent graduates with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in longterm care, collaborate with residents, families, and healthcare professionals, and develop skills in design thinking, quality improvement, communication, collaboration, and leadership.
Interns will participate in weekly virtual learning sessions, in-person experiential learning at a host LTC home, independent and group activities, and an interprofessional capstone project.
Internship Dates
The internship runs Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET, between Monday, May 10 – Friday, June 11, 2027.
