Funding & Benefits for Your LTC Home
Secure funding and comprehensive support to establish a sustainable nursing mentorship program in your home.
Through the Nursing Partnership for Learning, Employment, Development, Growth, and Experience (Nursing PLEDGE), your LTC home will strengthen support for both experienced and new nurses, directly contributing to improved nurse retention. Registered Practical Nurses, Registered Nurses, or Nurse Practitioners will receive mentorship training and support as they mentor new nursing team members and leverage opportunities to discuss challenges and solutions through their participation in a Community of Practice.

Who is eligible for funding?
The program is available for all licensed and publicly funded LTC homes in Ontario.
Note: Applications will be accepted and approved by the Ontario CLRI at the RIA within the program’s available budget.
A nurse mentor participating in the program will be an experienced member of the existing registered nursing staff in the participating LTC home (RPN, RN, or NP), who has the experience, knowledge, competencies, and clinical skills to provide dedicated mentorship to nursing mentees within the home.
Nursing mentors will provide dedicated mentorship to nursing mentees.
Participating LTC homes will be responsible for identifying and selecting nurses within the home to act as nursing mentors, leveraging the description above.
The following qualifications may be considered as part of a more comprehensive selection criteria for nurse mentors:
- Excellent clinical skills and competencies
- Outstanding communication skills
- Previous experience teaching, working with clinical learners, and/or precepting,
- Demonstrated leadership, change management, and problem-solving skills.
A nurse mentee participating in the program will be a member of the existing registered nursing staff in the participating LTC home (RPN, RN, or NP), who would benefit from or seeks additional mentorship, coaching, support, etc. while working in the home.
While nursing mentees will typically be new nursing recruits to LTC homes, participating LTC homes will be responsible for identifying and selecting nurses who seek or would benefit from dedicated mentorship as a nurse mentee to support their nursing practice and professional development.
The following qualifications may be considered as part of a more comprehensive selection criteria for nurse mentees:
- New to their nursing role or new hire within the LTC home
- Expresses desire and willingness to learn and grow
- Seeks opportunities for additional hands-on experience
- Open to feedback and eager to develop clinical and professional skills
- Nurses looking to upskill
- Newly licensed Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs), IENs with a Temporary Class license
Nursing students completing their clinical placements are not eligible to receive mentorship through the program.
